Hi. I have a problem with the picture on my Panasonic TH-42PX60B Viera. Sometimes while watching a program / film through SKY+ (RGB component signal) the picture has a kinda blotching (see attached image) or the whites are a slightly off red colour. I currently have the Plasma set at Normal viewing mode (Instead of Dynamic, Cinema, or Auto), all colour balances in the centre, P-NR Min, Colour Management set to On, Colour balance on Normal.
You can see the blodging in the right hand lower section of the picture I have taken from the film 'The Holiday' whilst they were driving in the car.
This issue occurs a lot when on 'Blacks' too i.e. the black looks like a purple blodge and especially on 'Whites'
I was thinking it might be my connections i.e. cheap cables but wasn't sure and didn't want to go and shell out a fortune if it was a simple setting fix.
Hopefully someone might have the answer.
Wishing everyone who reads this post a very Merry Xmas

Hi stundies, and welcome to DS (you'll like it around here, generally a friendly place) The first thing I would try would be a different SCART cable - you don't need to spend a fortune, but you do need to make sure that whatever you get is individually screened - this means that each of the cores inside the cable is wrapped in its own shielding, as opposed to being all bunched together with on shield around them all.
How much that will help, I don't know, but for the sake of £10-£20 its got to be worth a shot.
Bear in mind that Sky+ is a SD source, which will always look rough on a large screen - a problem that can vary depending on the bit-rate used by the broadcaster for whatever program you are watching at the time.
    Hope this helps.
    Merry Christmas.

Cheers, I will try a new scart - component cable in the new year then, might just take the plunge and buy a 'Monster Cable', i've read some good reviews about these.

This looks quite a lot like the 'purple snakes' that the PX60 was famous for. Panasonic do (or did) offer a free fix but some have reported it can make the picture worse in other respects.
Go onto AV forums and search for 'purple snakes' where there is a major thread on this, you will then be able to judge whether this is really the problem you have and what to do about it if it is.

I've had a TH-42PX60B for 14 months now and recently the picture quality has taken a nosedive.
Anyone know how to get into the service menu?
I have intolerable levels of magenta/purple noise even seen blue banding.
I am sure this is the infamous 'purple snakes' problem, but it is so bad that it really does ruin viewing.
It is also unpredictable. Pictures you think should exhibit the problem don't, and a brilliant DVD (e.g. Apocalypto) suddenly displays awful quality for a few mins.
I've even seen it on BBC HD broadcasts.
Whilst the quality of the source seems to have some bearing on the problem, it's not the full story.
If you use 'hold' on the remote then go into menu and change the picture mode..the 'snakes' move all over the place rather than stay still and just change in colour/intensity. I think this means the colour processing of the set is crap.
I will try to post a few pics of a really bad example.... 'journeyman' on sky.
I don't like hassle, stuff should just work but my TV is now sometimes unwatchable. At least I got 5 year warranty..Panasonic can expect a call soon.

Call Panasonic, there's nothing else you can do - it's a board change.
As I said previously search for puprple snakes on AV forums, there's a huge thread on this.
