GAIN: This is by far the most powerful control in each of the three different Modes that are activated by the Mode switch. It not onl y determines the overall gain amount, shape and sensitivity of the Mode selected...but it is also a powerful T one control. DIAGNOSING PREAMP TUBE PROBLEMS: Because your amplifier is an all tube design, it is quite possible that you will at some point experience minor pre-amp tube noise. Rest assured - this is no cause for alarm and you can take care of the problem yourself in a matter of minutes by simply swapping tubes. Let us begin by saying; It is a “very good” [...]

it doesn’t need to be adjustable.” BIAS ADJUSTMENT : (Continued) When you set the bias (whether it’s by selecting the right resistors, as we do, or adjusting a trimmer — which is quicker) what you are doing is establishing the correct amount of idle CURRENT that flows through the power tubes. But you can’t adjust the current directly , yo[...]

BIAS ADJUSTMENT : (Continued) tubes. The thinking is that adjusting the bias to each tube separately eradicates the inheren t differences between the tubes by insuring that the same current flows through each oneAgain, this has some merit .. but it’s st ill not as good as using tubes that are matched in the first place because compensating for th[...]

Dec 22, 2003 4) The specific type of power tube you use depends on the amp. If I'm not mistaken, the F-50 takes 6L6s, but you should check your manual to be sure. In some amps, you can substitute EL-34s or 6V6s for 6L6s (the Mark IV lets you do this), but in other amps, you can't. Again, check your manual. 5) The amp should be OFF when you pull tubes.
